How to participate as player - Unity League
Abstract
Unity League is an independent ranking system for Magic: The Gathering across Europe.
Players collect League Points to qualify for national championships, and ultimately the European Magic Cup.
How to collect points
To collect points at local and international tournaments, please follow these steps:
1. Inform your local tournament organizer
For you to receive points, your local organizer needs to register their events for the league. Hence it's essential that you inform your local gaming store (LGS) or other independent organizers about the opportunity to participate in the league and award points.
2. Create your player account
Create an account to track your points. Some tournament apps use your player name, while others connect directly to your account.
2.1 Register your name
To pick a unique full name as your identifier, consider the following:
- Use your first and last name with a space in between, for example "Elliot Carter".
- Also include your middle name, for example "John Bob Smith", if your name is common.
Once you have decided on your name, you can register it here:
2.2 Connect your tournament accounts
Companion app
- Open the Magic: The Gathering Companion App and login
- Go to the Play tab on the bottom navigation bar
- Click on Joining as followed by your name on top of the screen
- Enter your first and last name and Submit
From now on, when your organizer reports results from Companion, they will be correctly linked to your Unity League account. If you find past results that are not linked to your account, please contact us to have them transferred.
Melee
- Open your player profile on Unity League.
- Under Tournament accounts, select Melee.gg.
- Enter your Melee username or paste your public profile link and click Connect account.
Don't change your Melee username after connecting it, or your future results will no longer be linked.
3. Report inaccurate/missing results
In case the results of a tournament are incorrect or missing, it's your responsibility to report this to the organizer of the event within 14 days. You can find their email in the details of the event.
If the tournament organizer is unable to correct the error, please contact us.
Frequently asked questions
To receive invites to the National Championships or the European Magic Cup, you must use your real name to track points. We will ask for ID to ensure the right players attend these events.
Yes, you can. Your country is determined by where you play most of your events and is set automatically. If we've assigned the wrong country to you, please contact us.
You must sign up on Unity League to collect points and be shown on the leaderboard.
We allow all Magic formats at our participating events, even unofficial ones. You can expect that the National Championships will be hosted in a popular format of the country.
We use several methods to keep the league fair:
- Players use the same identifier on Unity League that they use in tournaments, so communities can verify who attends events.
- Our fraud detection checks events and results for suspicious patterns.
- We review suspicious cases manually and may ban players or organizations that try to manipulate the league.
Unity League is operated by Mana Grid GmbH and led by passionate founders Jari Rentsch and Dae-Jin Rhee. It started as a community project in Switzerland and grew from the idea that local events are more exciting when every result can be part of something bigger.
The league only works because organizers, players, and local communities keep showing up.
