How to organize events - European Unity League
Abstract
The European Unity League is an independent Magic: the Gathering tournament series culminating in the European Magic Cup with €20k prizes.
From the smallest FNM to the largest convention, every event can participate and
award League Points.
Players collect these points to qualify for their National Championships,
which award invites to the European Magic Cup.
Eligible events
Events must fulfill the following requirements to award League Points for the European Unity League:
- Played with Magic: the Gathering cards.
- Held in real life (no MTG Arena or Magic Online, ...).
- Open to the public (anyone can participate).
We allow both WPN stores and independent organizers from all countries (not just limited to EU). Events can be held in all formats and structures.

- Go to My events and open the details of the right event.
- Scroll down to the result of the player and click on the Edit next to it.
- Enter the correct name or change match wins, losses and draws.
If the player has many wrong results, please contact us.
Hosting a EUL National Championship
Between October and December 2025, 1-3 organizers in each country will host the national finals. Only the top players of the country may participate.
Each National Championship will be a normal, local competitive event sponsored by the EUL. We will ship various goodies including a dual land (e.g. Volcanic Island), playmats, and a trophy free of charge.
Hosting Nationals will typically be offered to our most supporting organizers, which host many events and actively promote the league in their region.
We also factor in travel distances for players and prefer regions with many participating organizers.
Frequently asked questions
All events can participate and we actively encourge small, independent groups to join us. From the smallest 6-player draft at a local restaurant to the largest main event at a convention, everything is allowed.
However events need to be public, played with Magic: the Gathering cards, and held in real life (no online events).
We will send an invoice via email every few months. In case you have unpaid invoices, we will also show a reminder when you log in.
Generally all countries (not only EU Member States) are eligible to host a National Championship and award invites to the European Magic Cup. However there must be a significant number of participating events in the country.
Participating events can be run in any Magic format, including formats not officially supported by WotC. However we recommend running National, Qualifier and Grand Prix events in some of the most popular formats in your country.
If your format is not listed on our website, please let us know and we will add it.
We are using a combination of different methods to prevent cheating:
- Players are required to use their real name. This allows fellow participants to verify the correct players attend.
- For Local events, only the player's best 40 results and 5 playoff results count.
- We have a fraud detection system that checks events and results for suspicious patterns.
We reserve the right to lifetime ban any player or organization on our platform that we suspect of cheating.
In Switzerland the Unity League is already an established series with a huge community supporting the project. Key figures Jari Rentsch, Antoine Albertelli, and Dae-Jin Rhee are taking the next step in running a EU-wide series and founding a company.
- Organizers pay fees for some events they organize.
- Entry fees for the National Championships and the European Magic Cup.
- We will run a crowd funding campaign.
- In the first year the founders ( Jari Rentsch, Antoine Albertelli, and Dae-Jin Rhee ) will sponsor the project.
- Hopefully we will find some sponsors evnentually. ;)
