SPECIAL BIRTHDAY EVENT - TRIBAL WAR

DESCRIPTION: This is this year’s special birthday event. It’s proxy-admitted. The rules are simple: the banlist is the Pioneer one, with a few variations. Anyone who asks will be provided with the brief rules sheet by email.The essential idea is to fight as the general of your own tribe and build a deck consisting of at least 22 creatures from the same tribe in the main deck.

This is a quick summary of the basic rules:

1. Proxy cards are allowed.

2. The legal cards and the Banlist are the same as those in the Pioneer format. In addition, the following cards are banned:

• Crippling Fear;
• Witch’s Vengeance.

1. The deck-building rules regarding the minimum number of cards in the main deck and the maximum number of cards in the sideboard are also the same as those in the Pioneer format. Therefore, a deck must have a minimum of 60 cards in the main deck and a maximum of 15 cards in the sideboard. The maximum number of copies of the same card allowed in a deck is 4, excluding basic lands.

2. A tribal deck must include at least 22 creatures belonging to the same tribe in the main deck. Each tribal creature card counts as 1 toward the minimum required number of creatures in the main deck, regardless of how many copies of that creature are included in the deck. This means that if 2 different creatures are each present as 4 copies in the main deck, they contribute a total of 8 toward the minimum requirement.

3. Within a deck, including both the main deck and sideboard, each creature must belong to a single tribe. By “tribe,” we mean a creature permanent subtype appearing on the card. A creature permanent with multiple subtypes can legitimately be included in a deck if at least one of its subtypes matches the chosen tribe.

Any interested player may request an extended version of the basic rules by email, which provides specific examples to clarify all the most relevant aspects of the event.
